Fender Squier Strat sounds like crap!

I originally posted this video on YouTube September 25, 2007.

Oh man do I have a good tale to tell about this one.

What you see in the video is me playing my first guitar that I still own. It’s an early-90s Fender Stratocaster Squire II, Korean build.

I titled the video “Fender Squier Strat sounds like crap!” for two reasons:

  1. Squier by Fender is well known to be the low-end bargain basement Stratocaster. It is not built with the same quality standards as USA-made strats. This is undisputed.
  2. I know it doesn’t sound like crap, so I purposely titled it as sounding “like crap” as a joke.

At the time of this writing there are 71 YouTube comments on this vid, several of which are from YouTube “guitar experts”.

Most musicians are assholes, but the ones that truly take the cake are those who desperately try to look smart in the form of a comment.

I got sick of those morons, so this was the blurb I had in the sidebar for this video for a while:

The title is a JOKE, you idiots. OF COURSE the guitar sounds good. The title is SUPPOSED to throw you off.

The guitar is an early 90’s Korean-built Fender Stratocaster Squier II. It was my first guitar and I still own it (obviously).

There is NO AMP being played in the video. The sound is going DIRECT from the guitar to a SansAMP GT2, then an ancient Alesis Quadraverb GT plugged into my sound card. I’M NOT KIDDING. If you have any home studio know-how at all you can recreate any good guitar sound including simulated amps. Don’t believe me? I honestly don’t care.

YES, I do own a “real” Stratocaster USA standard but I haven’t posted a video playing the blue one yet. I also on a Schecter C-1 Classic and some other guitars. If you idiots BOTHERED to watch my other videos you would see these.

And to any moron who:

a. Tells me how to play
b. “Suggests” gear
c. Says they can do better

..if you don’t have a video of your own to back it up DONE BY YOU - you talk out of your ass. Don’t be an ass speaker.

And oh yeah, the “experts” didn’t like that blurb at all. Several comments came in shortly after that, blah blah.. the “experts” all so desperately trying to look smart.. heh.

Funny lot, that bunch. They talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. At all.

    Just found your video on youtube, that guitar has a pretty neat sound. What type of Squier Strat is it exactly? Bullet? Affinity? Something different?

    @2 he is prob using a software program called Guitar FX 3 or one of the many other programs out there :)

    There are no modifications to the guitar. It’s 100% original.

    You’ve just skillfully smashed these snobby assholes who buy expensive gear and they start their quest for criticing cheap stuff. I’ve got even cheaper than Squier lefthanded Stagg S300 strat copy and I’ve read so many stupid inconstructive comments about that guitar written by self-appointed experts who had never touch it. I’ve learned to play on this guitar and I think it’s awesome. Now I’m going to buy a little more expensive guitar. Probably It’ll be Vintage VS6 with humbuckers.

    Great video - cool playing.

    There aren’t many Squire videos on Youtube. I got a Squire back in ‘97 and nevery really learned to play it. I’d like to buy a better guitar, but I think the squire, is good for me to learn and play riffs - just have fun.

    Good to hear what a Squire can do - although I understand all squires are different.

    Ah, good to know! I’m looking for an affordable electric guitar, it would be mainly a whim. I was considering a Fender Squire and then I read that it sounds like crap ;) Glad to know it’s not true. Cheers!
