a wish for jeans that fit part 2Sunday Dec 2nd 2007 [part 1] I went to return my jeans today and I was refunded without issue. I then headed straight to the clothes department determined to find jeans that fit me correctly. Fortune was on my side and I easily found an employee who had the changing rooms unlocked. I tried on at least 8 pairs of jeans. Did I find any that fit? Yes. As stated in my previous post (see part 1 linked at top) I’ve been wearing 38×30 for years and now that size doesn’t fit anymore. I will now reveal to you something that makes no sense at all. Want to know what fits me now? 36×29 “relaxed fit”. I’m not kidding. Evidently I’m slimmer and I’ve shrunk an inch. Or maybe they make jeans differently than they used to. I bought two pair. I washed them and they fit perfect. :D You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed.

Regarding the length anyway, I’m pretty sure clothing in general is being made differently. I used to be able to get away with “average” length, but now I’m generally stuck with “petite” length pants. Cripes, I’m short but I didn’t think I was that short! And I know for a fact I haven’t shrunk. So for what it’s worth you’re probably not shrinking either. Yet. :p

Oh yes I’m sure I am not shrinking.. one would hope.
And one would think a girl who wears “petite” is a compliment? ;)

One would think, but it’s more annoying than anything else… the shorter lengths are harder to find and there’s not as much variety. Good thing for me I’m not exactly a fashionista or I’d be really irritated by it!

Isn’t that so annoying?! I have a pair of Abercrombie jeans that I got a few years ago in college, and then I went back to Abercrombie last year to try on another pair because I have a terrible time finding jeans that fit… and I tried on a pair 2 sizes bigger than the ones I already had and they were too small! Vanity sizing at its finest, I guess…
There’s a good blog post about vanity sizing that kind of goes along with what you were saying about the same brand/different size issue at http://www.truejeans.com/blog/fashion_advice/vanity_sizing_alive_and_well.html. I wish women’s sizes were like men’s, in inches, so there’d be no discrepancy and struggling in the fitting room!
