with the glass so dark they won’t even know your name

Title of this entry is a lyric from a classic ZZ Top song.

(Yes, this is me.)

My primary mission objective today was to acquire cheap sunglasses - and that’s exactly what I did. The reason? For some photography later. You’ll see those photos eventually in the near future.

I haven’t owned a pair of shades in a long time and I rarely wear them because they’re not prescription (I’m nearsighted). There was a time I did have prescription shades, and I loved them, but my eyes got worse, had to get updated glasses, and therefore couldn’t wear the shades any longer. One of these days I will spend the $4000 and have LASIK surgery performed to correct my eyes, but for now I just wear glasses. Like I said, these shades are for photography only. I absolutely cannot drive with these, nor would I.

Heard while shopping for my shades today:

Well, you know the holiday season is from Halloween to New Year’s Day..So true. Right after Oct 31, all the stores fill up with Christmas wares and remain that way until New Year’s Day. My brain still does not realize it’s almost mid-November because it’s not cold outside. It’s 77° F and awesome as usual in Tampa. Back where I grew up it’s 60°. Not bad, but however it’s raining over there and probably quite crappy outside today. November Rain isn’t just a song by Guns’n'Roses; it means cold crappy I-should-have-stayed-in-bed-today kind of weather.

In the store I was in, there was a large sign that said 42 Shopping Days Until Christmas. Whether that’s accurate or not I don’t know. Doesn’t really matter to me. I mean, yeah, I suppose the spirit of giving is wonderful and all that, but the sharing of company with family and/or friends means much more than a thing ever could.

Seen while driving thru Tampa:

Every weekend there are about two to four people at every major intersection in Tampa selling newspapers. They wait for cars to stop at red lights, then walk up to your car and ask if you want a paper or not. To the best of my knowledge, this doesn’t happen anywhere in New England where people just literally walk into an intersection full of cars trying to sell papers. And yes, they do sell papers. It does work. People do buy papers right from their car.

All this holiday stuff is making me think about the new year.

If I may make a bold prediction, I think 2007 is going to be a great year, not just for me but for everyone else. For almost everyone I know, 2006 sucked. Bad. Lost jobs, lost loves, lost friends, you name it and it happened. So if you’re feeling oh-so-crappy, don’t worry, ‘07 is going to be better. Do I have proof of this? No, obviously I don’t, but, I keep the faith. Faith is a good thing.Instead of getting up every morning thinking you’re going to “face another day”, why not turn that around and appreciate the fact you’re here and alive.

Take a deep breath and realize you’re still with us.
