Archive for June, 2005I am the eye in the sky6/10/2005 One of my all time favorite songs is “Eye in the Sky” by The Alan Parsons Project. The small intro before that is called “Sirius”. I decided to make a rendition of my own, using guitars instead of synths. I think it came out pretty good. It’s short, but cool. posted in blog | Comments Off Cool6/11/2005 Today is a scorcher outside. It’s 95 degress farenheit as I write this. The humidity is at 54%. Yeah, it’s hot. I said fuggit and went out and bought a small air conditioner. Since 1989 when I first moved into this house, there has never been air conditioning. Every time it gets nasty outside like this it sucks. Even with a fan blowing directly in my face it’s just too darn hot. Right now, however, the A/C is in the window with a stand-up fan in front of that to push the cool air further (I learned that trick from a friend of mine who does that - it really works). I didn’t even bother with the mounting brackets. I stuck the unit in the window and used cardboard to block off the rest. It may not be pretty but it works GREAT. This will certainly spike my electric bill, but I don’t care. If I have to spend an extra 15 bucks to breathe easy, that’s perfectly okay. posted in blog | Comments Off Cooler6/11/2005 I have been running the A/C all day.. wow.. so wonderful. Now I know what the good life feels like, haHA! Seriously, wow can I breathe so much easier. I live in a higher elevation than most people, so the air is a bit thin to begin with. With the tiny little A/C unit, it has made all the difference. I just felt such a sense of joy by having a nice cooled environment. Oh, and for extra perks, my laptop loves the cold and has been running faster than usual, I notice. Actually, all computers love cold. Computers of any/all types generate a lot of heat, especially modern ones.. but my laptop is as cool as a cucumber. This is totally going to be worth the extra 15 bucks I’ll spend on the electric bill. I think it’s going to be 15 bucks.. not sure. 15 is probably more than what the additional cost actually will be. Whatever it is, I’m a happy guy for sure! posted in blog | Comments Off Trust me, this is a good sign6/12/2005 Something I read today warmed the cockles of my heart.. maybe even in the sub-cockle area, maybe even in the colon. According to recent statistics from the Labor Department, the number of people who are outright quitting their jobs in search of better ones is the highest it’s been in four years. Sounds like a bad thing, right? It’s not. It means that there is finally some relief for people who are stuck in really crappy jobs. These people have found it safe to quit and have been able to find better employment. “Better employment” to me doesn’t necessarily mean better pay. It means better peace of mind. Most of us out there are more than aware that the vast majority of companies out there couldn’t care less about its employees, other than they simply show up - but that’s not enough. Other countries take the initiative to ensure that employees are kept happy so they stay at their job, develop teamwork, a sense of family atmosphere, and overall happiness at the job. This means a better product is produced. I am in full support of anyone wishing to find a job that makes them happier and feel better about themselves. With more and more US based companies outsourcing, cutting corners and doing anything possible to keep their executives in their Porsches and yachts, it makes me very happy that more people will have the opportunity to stick the middle finger to them and find another job. A better job, where they’ll be more appreciated for an honest day’s work. posted in blog | Comments Off www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgoge…6/12/2005 www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch.com. Yep. It’s the world’s longest domain name - and it’s a real web site. I think it’s cool just for the sheer lunacy of it. ;-) posted in blog | Comments Off Weather report6/13/2005 At present, it’s 83 degrees F with 80% humidity. Keeeee-rhyst. Absolutely dismal weather. Dismal, I say, dismal. The air is really heavy out there. Again, I pat myself on the back for getting the A/C unit, I seemed to have acquired it at just the right time. This is going to be a short post because even though I’m sitting in a cool room, the heavy air is just wearing me out. posted in blog | Comments Off Reminder to me6/15/2005 I’m writing this as a reminder to myself (with a new category) to get my screenplay back on track. On most days I wear my memory stick around my neck to remind me to get the darn thing done. This is the same as tying a string around your finger. Regardless of that, no matter how many times I wear it, it never seems to sink in that I have to get it done. And yeah, I have to get that done. Whether it succeeds or fails, it’s just a thing I have to do. posted in blog | Comments Off I am not alone6/15/2005 It always warms me to see other computer guys out there on the ‘net, who ironically enough have “work rooms” that look like my home office (more or less). Over at BYTECellar, there is a pic of what the room looks like. It’s all too typical of someone who works with computers and electronics a lot. Wires, boxes, screens and TONS of cables strewn everywhere. Looks similar to my office.. except for the fact I have a combination of computer crap and music stuph. ;-) posted in blog | Comments Off The deed is done6/16/2005 All the renovations to the house are more or less completed at this point, so I bit the bullet and posted an ad in the ‘Globe. It will appear this Sunday. The cost to advertise was less than I thought. It was $165.50 for a Sunday edition 10-line ad in the real estate section. Not too bad. Considering the massive readership that newspaper has, I don’t think it was too bad of a deal. There is the distinct possibility I just pissed away 165 bucks, but hey, I had to try. Who knows, maybe the house will sell and I can finally get the hell outa Dodge. ;-) posted in blog | Comments Off Late night bandit6/17/2005 One of my friends noticed the post times of my entries lately and asked if I stay up for 24 hours straight or something. Answer: Nope. What I’ve been doing, which is becoming a really bad habit, is that as soon as I get home, I eat and then go straight to bed. Then I wake up somewhere between 3 to 5 hours later, stay up for a while and then go back to bed again. Believe me I am trying my best to get back on a normal sleep schedule (as in go to bed at a reasonable hour, like 9pm, and wake up at 6am). Don’t know if that’s actually going to happen but I will try. ;-) posted in blog | Comments Off | ||||
