Truck sold (most likely)

Today a prospective buyer came up to look at the ‘87 S-10 truck I’m selling. He looked, he prodded, he went over the truck, under the truck, around the truck and everywhere inbetween. He also test drove it.

Finally, he said “sold”.

I have $200 bucks in my pocket as a down payment. The rest is coming on Saturday.

I’ll miss that truck. It served me very well. This is the first time in years that I will be a single vehicle owner. I have been a two-car owner since 1998. What I’ve always done is have one good car and one “beater” car - a practice that many people do. But now I won’t be doing that for a while.

I’ll get another secondary vehicle eventually… but what to choose..

Here’s a list of vehicles I’ve never owned:

Luxury Sedan
Two seater sports car
T-Top’ed car
Convertible
Any V8 rear-drive vehicle
Pre-1982 vehicle
Premium German car
Full size truck
Van of any kind

The luxury sedan thing I don’t see happening. While it’s true that Cadillacs, Lincolns and Lexus’ pamper you, it’s not necessarily a requirement.

The premium German car (such as Porsche, Mercedes Benz and so on) I don’t see happening either. I’ve known people who own Porsches and Benz and so on. Mostly you pay for a name and not much more. At the end of the day, the only “cool” thing about owning a German car is the fact it’s German. The mileage isn’t any better, the parts aren’t cheaper and there really isn’t any other cool-factor other than pride of ownership.. which I guess says it all when it comes to those cars.

T-Tops are cool, but convertibles are better. The best t-topped cars are the ones built in the 90’s in my opinion. Reasons: Light tops and better leak protection. Older t-top’d cars have very very heavy roofs. It’s just they way they were and there’s not much you can really do about it. The only positive of t’s compared to a convertible is that it’s a lot easier to maintain. Convertible tops get weather-stained over time and require a lot of maintenance to keep them looking good. Additionally, many convertibles look crappy when the top is up.

Full size trucks and vans (real vans, not minivans) have their own coolness to them, but I don’t think I will ever own one.. not unless it’s absolutely required that I need something to haul large items around in. Right now I don’t need such a vehicle - nor do I need to feed one either. (grin)

I could knock 3 items off that list by getting a pre-1982 V8 rear-drive convertible sports car, like a ‘67 Mustang Convertible for instance. So I guess the next vehicle will be that or something like that.. eventually.

I’m in no rush. :-)
