Against my better judgement I have signed up for another Recon Gamer Counter-Strike server. What can I say.. I missed being an admin for a game server. It’s going to be my last hurrah for CS. I will probably keep it online until the end of the summer. This time, however, things are going to be a bit different.
1. This will be a fun server only. I am not doing “pro” teams or any of that crap. There’s going to be lots of custom maps, lots of custom sounds and just plain cool stuff that I like.
2. This is not Condition Zero, this is not Source. This is just plain old v1.6. The majority of the players out there use 1.6, that’s a fact. I want a serv where the most people can play and have fun.
3. I’m not handing out “admin” to anyone. Ever. (grin)
4. There is going to be no registered web sites for this game server. I’m going to use the one that RG provides which is plenty good enough. :-)
Anyone who wants to know the serv IP just e-mail me or IM me. I’m not going to post it here.. although.. if you go a server-lookup in the game it’s really easy to find. My game name (Schecter) is in the title of the server. (grin)

Someone called me this afternoon and suggested I do a “On Laundry” blog entry. Sounded interesting. Here it is:
Sunday is usually my laundry day. I usually do it at the last minute and go to bed late. Today however, I was reminded to do it early and get it done.
Most people do laundry wrong. They will mix in clothes that shouldn’t be together and ruin a lot of clothes quickly. I mean seriously, clothes are expensive. I remember when you could get a really good cotton t-shirt for 4 bucks. Now you can’t find one with any style to it for under 15(!)
One thing I consciously do when I shop for clothes is pay attention to the material they’re made out of. Basically put, if it’s not made out of something I can easily wash and not worry about - I won’t buy it. Also - if the article of clothing in question requires “special” cleaning, forget it. I won’t buy that either. The last thing I need to do is spend (read: waste) my time cleaning one piece of clothing at a time.
I separate my laundry into three categories: lights, darks and jeans. And we all know what happens when you don’t separate the lights and darks; you get little fuzzies all over your darker clothes. Mix jeans in with the lights and you suffer the same fate.
Ironing is something I also can’t stand. Currently (and hopefully forever) I have the luxury of getting my clothes out of the dryer right when the cycle completes. When you do this you don’t have to iron - or at least I don’t with the current clothes I have. Most clothes when hot will not wrinkle. However I will iron when I have to go to some special function, like a job interview for example. That is what I call “worthy” ironing.
Fabric softener sheets (a.k.a. dryer sheets) are also something I swear by. I don’t use them for softer fabric out of the dryer. I use them because it kills all the static electricity on the clothes when the dryer is done with its cycle. Unfortunately I have run into the problem of running out of dryer sheets.. which sucks. Everything sticks to everything. Blah. Oh, small tip: It does matter what brand of dryer sheet you buy. Bounce sheets are the best. Generic brands rip apart in the dryer. Nasty.
I have just finished my 2nd load (darks) and will move on to the jeans and then I’m done. Hallelujah. (grin)

I received my copies of the original releases (as in the versions before the “Special Edition” was released in 1997) of Star Wars episodes IV, V and VI. Some of you out there will know these as the “faces” editions, meaning the ones with the large character faces on the VHS covers.
Last night I watched the first one (A New Hope). I had almost forgotten what the movie looked like previous to 1997 and it was very good to see it in its original form with none of the “fixed” stuff. Personally I thought it was great. In all honesty I can understand why certain things were originally cut from the originals now; the film just has a much better flow throughout. I also thought the end battle scenes were way better in their original version because there was a much more organic looking (meaning better looking) feel to it.
I’m happy I got them. This is how I remember the movies. (grin)

I am in a positively foul mood today. This is because I didn’t get enough sleep last night. Lack of sleep gets me very irritable. The only thing that makes me more irritable is lack of eating (being hungry for a long time). If you happen to catch me when I’m both tired and hungry.. let’s just say it’s best to steer clear of me. (grin)
Fortunately as I write this I’m beginning to cheer up. I just ate a Snickers bar and the sugar rush is waking me up. Temporary fix but at least it keeps my mood in check.

Since last week I have been scanning the real estate listings for homes. Been looking at big ones, little ones and ones inbetween. Also been looking at mobile homes - a nice cost effective option. I would prefer a “regular” home with a basement but I don’t think I will be able to afford it.
Some of these mobile homes actually aren’t bad. Some have 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths with almost 1200 square feet of space. Some are even larger. Not bad a’tall. Additionally they’re well under $100,000 in price. Also good.
What I have to do is eventually tour one of these homes. The space requirement is there and the price is right.. but I have to go inside a few before I make any decisions - especially considering I would have to get a big-ass loan for one of these things.
Whether I will feel comfortable with one of these things I don’t know. Guess that’s part of the adventure. I’ll have to find out.

It gives me a smile and a chuckle when internet giants like Google are able to still have a sense of humor:
Google in Bork! Bork! Bork! (Swedish Chef from the Muppets) speak.
Google in Elmer Fudd talk.
Google in hacker speak.
Google in Klingon (think Star Trek)
Google in Pig Latin
Thank you, Google, for putting a smile in my day. (grin)

Here at werk it is snowing outside. Fortunately at this point it is a light fluffy-type snowfall with very little wind which is most preferable. Heavy snow is a mess. High winds during snowfall are also a mess. The light stuff falling right now is easy to drive in as long as there is some daylight out.
I was outside a few minutes ago and watched the snow. Snowfall like this is calming to watch. It appears to look like perpetual motion, sort of like a fishtank full of guppies except this is vertical rather than horizontal. Moments like these are good for the soul. I remember light snow days like this when I was a kid. Times were a lot easier back then and snow was FUN.
Sometimes I wish snow could be fun again. Maybe one day it will be.

Today I went to werk. Why I don’t know. It’s a complete bucket of shit out there weather-wise. I should have stayed home. Last night it snowed. A lot. Today it will continue to snow. A lot. If that wasn’t good enough - freezing rain (read: ice) is being dumped on the roads as I type this. Yay.
Let’s hope I get home in one piece today..

I’m happy to report I was able to make it home. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, those Blizzak’s I bought were worth every dime I paid for them.
I live on a driveway that is almost 1/5th of a mile long. It’s paved, but, at its steepest point there is almost a 25% grade (that’s pretty steep). In years past, on days like this there was absolutely no way I would make it up the driveway in my car. Today however, I did - and this is the worst of winter days. The ground is iced over with slush and sleet everywhere.
I drove up the driveway and made it past the halfway mark. A good sign usually. Then, right at the steepest point the car stopped moving. The traction control just keep spinning over and over.
I stopped.
Thought to myself for a second or two.. “I remember hearing that if you turn off the traction control these tires will bite right through the ice.”
Turned off the traction control and hit the gas. Tires are spinning and you can smell the rubber burning, but I am moving, inch by inch. About 30 seconds later I’m over the top of the crest.
Boo-yah. I’m home.
Those tires cut right through all the sleet, snow, slush and ice and got me the traction I needed.
Bridgestone Blizzak’s are the best snow tire - EVER.
