Archive for September, 2004Northbound - Part 29/20/2004 Prologue: I’ve never written a “Part I” to this. The last time I tried (and failed) to go Northbound was something like a little over a year or so ago.. I don’t remember the exact date. The result was disastrous and lessons were learned. I’m not going to go into what exactly happened, but, let’s just say that for all intents and puposes the timing wasn’t right… at all. (grin) For the 2nd time in my life I will be attempting to move up North. The difference compared to my previous attempt is that I’m going to be a bit smarter about it this time ’round… and I believe I have a really good chance of succeeding. I can’t really get into the details at the moment, but it seems that things are having much more solidity to them compared to the first time I tried this. Some would ask “Why North?” I have several reasons for wanting to go, but the main one is that I got a liking for the North a long long time ago when I was little. My pop used to take me up there when I was a kid and I always liked it. In my later years I’m now finding out that the living up there is cheaper, the people are friendlier, the food is better (undoubtedly), the rock music scene is better.. Notes about the music scene: In Connecticut, the rock music scene is all but dead. I remember when it wasn’t. There used to be cool bands everywhere you looked. And yeah I mean everywhere. At one point I knew about 15 different bands - several of them professional. Then suddenly and for no reason everything dried up and that was it; nothing was never the same again. Up North they have large rock venues all the time. What was a small murmur just a few years back has turned into something really cool up that way. Concerning the whole “peace of mind” thing, I wrote here previously that either I was either going north or south for location. I’ve made my decision. I’m going North. This is the 2nd attempt and hopefully it will be successful. Concerning recent events that have happened - it really looks like the timing is right this time ’round. Even so - I’m not going to make the definitive statement “Yes I am moving” until I 100% know for a fact it will happen. Trust me, if I get the confirmation I’m looking for, you’ll most likely see a “Piss off, Connecticut, I’m outa here!” post soon enough. :-) posted in blog | Comments Off CS server back soon9/22/2004 The Counter-Strike server has been down for a few days because it was being converted from Windows to (you guessed it) SuSE Linux. The box is now all set up, I just have to get a few things out of the way and then it will be back online. Once this is done I’m going to leave it as is for a while, but I’ll pop in from time to time. I’ll be reposting the server IP once I’m finished with it. posted in blog | Comments Off CS server addy9/23/2004 The server’s back up, running good! Server IP: 69.0.103.230:27015. See you there! posted in blog | Comments Off The Gut Speaks9/23/2004 Call it a feeling, but I’m quite certain that what I write here is going to change significantly over the course of the next several weeks. I am very close to a life-changing event and it’s starting to sink in. This event will be a positive one. Realistically speaking, this event is not just an event - it’s the start of a journey… one that will take me places I knew were reachable given the right circumstances. This journey will involve change. Change is both good and bad… but that’s with anything in this life. You either move forward and go for what you want or you stay stuck in your own private hell. As I’ve said before, anyone who feels trapped in a situation built their own “box” - and it is up to the individual to break that box. My only fear at this point is that my journey will be stopped cold before it even starts. Fortunately, the fear is small because I am confident that things will fall into place - and they are. The signs are looking good and it is time. I am long overdue. posted in blog | Comments Off Bored9/24/2004 I’m bored so I’m messing around with the template for this site. Maybe I’ll go with an all-black site again. Hm…. posted in blog | Comments Off CS server broke again (heh)9/25/2004 Due to router problems the CS server will be down for a few days. That is all, carry on. :-) posted in blog | Comments Off New Template9/25/2004 Due to boredom I decided to change the look of this site and went CSS crazy. The home page is more or less finished but I have to finish up the other templates. Things will look a bit messy until I get it done. posted in blog | Comments Off New Template Done9/25/2004 The new template is finished. Those who visit this site regularly may need to “refresh” the page if it looks screwed up. In Internet posted in blog | Comments Off And… it’s down again9/26/2004 The CS server was back up - momentarily. Then it went back down again. I don’t know what the deal with it is. The guy who has the server replaced the CAT-5 cable and it seemed to work, but then it blew up again. I mean yeah, it’s free so I can’t bitch about it, but, I just wish the server would stay up for a little while. Oh well, what ya gonna do. Honestly speaking I couldn’t care less if it’s up or down. It’s just a hobby thing which will go away permanently in the future anyway. Right now I’m at a point in my life where video games aren’t really high up on my “to-do” list anymore. I think this server blowing up constantly is just a sign that maybe I should be concentrating on more important things - which I am. (grin) posted in blog | Comments Off favicon.ico how-to9/27/2004 Some of you have probably noticed that if you bookmark a site in Internet To create your own custom icon - this is how it’s done: First of all, that icon is called favicon.ico and it is saved in the root directory of your web site (where the home page index.html or default.htm is). To make a favicon.ico, there are commercial tools out there to do it, but who wants to pay for a stupid little icon?! Sheez! My suggestion is to use png2ico, a FREE utility that will convert a PNG to an ICO file that you can use. To those who don’t know, a PNG is a high-color graphic, like a JPG. It’s just a different format. Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro (my preference) will do PNG graphics. For those who don’t have those and don’t have any money, get GIMP for Windows. It also does PNG graphics. At this point, download png2ico mentioned above and extract it somewhere. Then, get any graphic and size it down to 32×32. Save it as PNG to where your png2ico directory is. – Begin severe noob instructions here – PNG2ICO is a command-line program. You will need to launch a command prompt in Windows in order to use it. In Windows 98/98/ME, this is done by clicking Start then Run then typing command in the box that appears then click OK. A black box will come up. This is a command prompt. In Windows NT/2000/XP, the same is done by clicking Start, then Run, then type cmd and click OK. Assuming you have installed png2ico at c:\png2ico, you get to that directory by typing cd\png2ico at the prompt. – End severe noob instructions – Launch a prompt. Go to where you installed png2ico which is also where you saved your 32×32 PNG file you want to use as your icon. Type this: png2ico favicon.ico whatever_you_named_the_file.png This will create your favicon.ico. Upload to the root of your web directory. Done deal. That’s it. My favicon.ico for this site happens to be a cropped small pic of Carla Alapont’s ass - quite possibly the nicest girls ass I’ve ever seen. posted in blog | Comments Off |
